Not all documents are appropriate for electronic notarization in every situation. While New York permits electronic notarization, acceptance ultimately depends on the receiving agency, jurisdiction, and specific requirements of the transaction.

Some documents may require in-person notarization, wet ink signatures, original paper documents, witnesses, or recipient-specific approval.

Examples of situations where electronic notarization may not be appropriate include:

• Documents requiring original wet ink signatures when electronic signatures or printed electronic records are not accepted
• Documents requiring physical inspection or in-person procedures, including verification of identity or original documents
• Documents requiring witnesses where appearance, identity proofing, or platform requirements cannot be properly completed
• Government, court, county clerk, consular, embassy, or foreign authority submissions that require original documents, wet ink, or specific certificate language
• Certified copies of vital records or government-issued documents that must be issued or certified directly by the appropriate agency
• Any situation where the signer cannot complete identity verification, maintain a live audio-video connection, or meet required technology standards
